In 1857 there was the case of Dred Scott v Sanford where the court ruled in favor of Sanford. Roger B. Taney sided with this opinion after he took all matters into account. James Buchanan heard that the decision for the case had been made and used his concoctions to find out what it would be, he later supported the decision in his inaugural address. He thinks that someday slavery will be resolved. Taney thinks that all free African-Americans were not citizens and therefore can't sue the American court of law. This case also concluded that the Missouri Compromise was unconstitutional.
