LAD #12 Polk

The document starts by stating the tensions between the United States and Mexico. Then goes on to claim that they had tried to resolve the issues with the neighboring country, Mexico, by sending American envoy, John Siddle. Siddle wanted to diplomatically resolve boarder disputes and hostilities committed upon American citizen by the southern boarder. But, the Mexican government refused to talk with Siddle and thus proceeded to display violence toward American soliders in Nuces and Del Norte in Texas. This region was then annexed in 1836. Since 16 United States troops were killed during the confrontation with Mexico, President Polk decided that this was cause to go to war with Mexico.
