LAD #8 Thomas Jefferson's First Inaugural

Thomas Jefferson announces in his first Inaugural Address many things beginning with the fact that the task is above his talents. He is very modest and hopes that the American people will give him guidance and support. He then says that unity us vital for the survival and prosperity of the nation where people can have different views and opinions, but still have then based around the same principles. He also talks about the importance of religious tolerance and where an error of opinion may be tolerated as well. Additionally, he mentions equality of citizens based not on birth right, but on actions. Then, he goes on to discuss improving America economically by strengthening the military, agriculture, and commerce. He also talks about the importance of civil liberties including the rights mentioned in the first amendment. He concludes by saying that he will advance obediently and will step down if the people wish it.
